“Earth is forgiveness school.” – Anne Lamott
When I set out to develop my Unstoppable Life Courses for you I compiled a list of all the things that have helped me live an Unstoppable life. The courses are like tools in my tool belt that I hope will be in your tool belt also.
One of my favorite courses, which I also consider one of the most important tools in life, is on Forgiveness. Forgiveness is so key to all core relationships. If there is one tool to develop and really work on in this life it is forgiveness because you can be sure you will have opportunities to do it almost every day. We need to forgive others, ourselves, our circumstances, our histories. And we need to forgive again and again and again.
Forgiveness is also the ultimate gift from God too! “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 4:8-9
More on what the Bible shares on this topic… There is a parable (story) of an unforgiving servant where Jesus is asked about forgiveness directly and gives a crystal clear answer: Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22 ESV
Sometimes we hurt others because we have blind spots, and sometimes others hurt us unintentionally for the very same reasons. This is why grace is so important. Grace for ourselves and grace for others.
In giving grace to others and forgiving seventy-seven times, in seeing earth as forgiveness school, we will be instruments of peace and love and truly an Unstoppable force for good in this world.
P.S. Forgiveness leads to better connection, re-connection, and restored relationships, forgiveness even leads to freedom and improved health (really!).
