Salt Water

The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.
Isak Dinesen

Not sure it’s quite that simple, but I appreciate the sentiment. I sure love the ocean and getting a sweat on, and sometimes I definitely need a good cry! Salt water may not cure everything, but it can definitely help.

SWEAT.

Moving your body and breaking a sweat is powerful on so many levels. There are the benefits of a good sweat that are notable and scientifically proven too: boosting energy, defending against many diseases and health conditions, improving mood, overcoming depression, promoting good sleep, reducing stress levels. And there are the lesser known benefits of sweating: detox of heavy metals, elimination of chemicals, bacterial cleansing. The good news is we don’t need to overthink it. Just MOVE. Do something you love. Alone, or with someone you love. Make it a goal to break a sweat often and see what you can “cure”.

TEARS.

Did you know that crying is really good for you? Crying helps relieve pain, remove toxins from the body, and actually enhances our mood through releasing the “feel good” chemicals oxytocin and endorphins*. Crying can help us realize that something is wrong and get help and support from people around us. Crying is important and healthy, so don’t be ashamed when you need to shed a few tears or have a good sob session. Let ‘em flow.

THE SEA.

I think you know how I feel about the ocean 🙂 For me, saltwater has been a place of healing for sure. Water is life! If you aren’t close to the ocean, I think any water can do you good. Find a pool, a lake, or a river and take a dunk, float gently or swim vigorously. If you’re not big on water, the great outdoors has a way of clearing the mind, putting life in perspective, and making us feel free. Nature is God’s gift for us!

Move your body. Feel your feelings. Seek nature – preferably salt water 🙂

P.S. I’d love for you to move your body with me in my Fundamentally Unstoppable Workout series! Available in my shop …No Gym? No Shoes? No Excuses!
