Made for Wonderful Things

One thing that I’ve found essential in living a purposeful, anchored, and Unstoppable life is the people I surround myself with.

I’ve found it so important to have others who can help you along and join you in your aim toward big goals and changes. We all need a team and accountability. A community that cheers and supports is incredibly life-giving. And so is one that holds you accountable to a life of good morals.

When I was a teenager, I had an awesome group of friends who loved surfing, sports, and being active. Many of them also loved and desired to follow God. We did Bible study groups together, played, and adventured. Together we chose to live differently and not drink, party, or dabble in drugs as was common among teenagers on the island. Our choices made for an environment where we were able to have fun together, challenge each other, and make choices that were healthy for our future – holding each other accountable to live the beautiful lives that I believe God wants for us and calls us to. Amazingly, the choices I made as a teenager still affect me now as a wife and mom.

In my recent conversation on I Want Her Job podcast, the host Polina asked me how I have stayed grounded and held to my faith and values throughout my life. The answer is, I knew what would bring me joy and what would bring me down; and I worked to surround myself with people who had the same values and faith as I did.  I am so thankful that my biggest influences have been and continue to be the people closest to me.

The choice of who to surround yourself with is important at every age.

Online communities can be great, but I believe your face-to-face and day-to-day relationships are more important. It’s been said that “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with” – Jim Rohn. What a challenging idea! Take stock of who you are spending the most time with and examine the influence they are having on you. Seek those who live lives and make choices in step with who you want to be. Find the wise ones and learn from them!

You were made for wonderful things – surround yourself with the people who cheer you on and call you up to be wonderful and Unstoppable YOU.

P.S. I launched my Unstoppable Year Course to equip you and encourage you and create a community where we can cheer each other on. I am so enjoying the interactions with my Unstoppables (as I like to call them) in our Facebook community and live Q&As. It is incredibly encouraging to hear how the course material is making a difference in people’s lives and relationships.

Journal It

Take stock of who you are spending the most time with and examine the influence they are having on you. Be honest!

Also consider what kind of influence you are having on them. Are you bringing them up and being an encouragement toward good healthy choices? If so, keep it up! If not, there’s no better time to start than now!

Document your realization here, state your intentions and outline your first action steps.
