Live Rooted, Not Rushed

Have you ever felt like you were “doing all the right things” when it comes to your health — eating clean, working out, checking all the boxes — but still feeling like something wasn’t right? You’re not alone.

That’s exactly where Kyle and Kori found themselves several years ago. On paper, they were the picture of modern health. Kori was a high-level sports conditioning coach, training professional athletes and competing in bodybuilding. Kyle was lifting, eating "healthy," and checking all the boxes for fitness. But behind the scenes, both were struggling — Kori’s body was breaking down from hormonal imbalances and undiagnosed endometriosis, and Kyle was battling chronic inflammation, brain fog, and fatigue.

Their story is an incredible example of how true health is so much more than outward appearances or rigid routines. It’s about nurturing our bodies from the inside out — physically, emotionally, and spiritually — so we can thrive in every season of life.

Recognizing the Signs

For Kori, the first wake-up call came through debilitating menstrual pain and a growing list of metabolic symptoms: hair loss, fatigue masked by caffeine, sleep disruptions, and extreme thirst. Despite following what her education taught was a “healthy” lifestyle, her body was crying out for help.

Kyle experienced his own version of this — working out hard but still inflamed and puffy, with mental fog and low energy that impacted his ability to show up fully in life.

As they began to dig deeper, they discovered that many of the popular approaches to health weren’t actually supporting their bodies’ foundational needs. They were chasing symptoms instead of watering the roots of the tree.

Shifting the Foundation

So what did they change? The journey led them to embrace what they now call a “pro-metabolic” lifestyle — supporting the body with real, nourishing food, reducing stressors (both physical and emotional), and aligning their daily rhythms with natural cues like light and rest.

Some of the simple but profound shifts included:

  • Prioritizing a nourishing breakfast within 30–60 minutes of waking, rich in protein, healthy fats, and simple carbs to stabilize blood sugar and fuel the body for the day.

  • Improving sleep hygiene by eliminating bright blue lights in the evening and creating a calm, restful environment to promote deep sleep and recovery.

  • Slowing down and listening — paying attention to the body’s signals and making intentional choices to support emotional well-being as well as physical health.

  • Moving their bodies dynamically, not just through intense workouts but through daily movement that supports mobility and vitality.

Perhaps one of the most inspiring parts of their story is how they embraced this journey together as a couple. Aligning on their approach to health brought them closer and helped them create a nurturing home environment for their family.

Health as a Gift for Your Family

One of my favorite moments in their story was when they shared how this journey transformed their parenting. As Adam mentioned on the podcast, when we’re better resourced, we’re better able to love and lead our families.

Kyle beautifully pointed out that resilience — the ability to remain calm and present under stress — is a huge marker of true health. And what greater motivation could there be than becoming the kind of parent who can lovingly support your children, even through their hardest moments?

As they shared, even simple practices like nourishing your body properly, improving sleep, and managing stress can have ripple effects on your children’s health and emotional well-being.

“Parents that are willing to put in the work — that’s the generational blessing. It sets your kids up for success.” – Kyle

Rooted in Grace

It’s important to remember this is a journey, not a destination. As Adam shared, it can be humbling to realize we’re still learning and growing — and that’s okay. Grace for yourself and your family is key.

When we view our bodies as a precious gift from God, it shifts how we care for them. It’s not about chasing perfection — it’s about honoring the temple He’s entrusted to us so we can serve Him and love others well.

Major Takeaways

  1. Water the Roots, Don’t Just Chase Symptoms
True health starts with supporting your body’s foundational needs — nourishment, rest, movement, and emotional resilience. If you feel stuck or burned out despite doing “all the things,” it might be time to step back and realign with what your body truly needs.

  2. Healthy Parents, Healthy Families
Prioritizing your own health isn’t selfish — it’s one of the greatest gifts you can give your family. The more resourced you are — physically, mentally, and emotionally — the more you can pour into your loved ones. By modeling resilience, balance, and grace, you’re planting seeds for generational health and well-being. As Kyle said so powerfully, parents willing to put in the work create a lasting, generational blessing for their children.
