Stewardship of Your Body

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” Psalm 139:13-14

Do you think of yourself as fearfully and wonderfully made? That is my hope for everyone! Your body is an incredible gift that only you can steward. Care for your body can be fun – not a burden or a “should” – but a daily and empowering project of love for yourself and an expression of gratitude for God’s wonderful work…YOU!

The point of a healthy lifestyle is getting to the place where you know how to use everything you’ve been given to its fullest potential. You start to understand all of the beauty and functionality God has placed within your body when he created you. The Bible goes so far as to say that your body is a “temple”…“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I love encouraging people to care for their health, which is why I devoted an entire mini-course to the topic as part of my Unstoppable Life Program. In the Optimizing Health Course my guest Dr. Dustin Dillberg and I talk about taking a holistic approach and looking at the physical, mental/emotional, nutritional, and environmental aspects of a healthy life. Check out this post for more Words of Encouragement on Optimizing Your Health.

I even wrote a book for young women focusing on health! In my book Body & Soul I talk about 4 ways to treat your body and mind right… or to be a good steward of your body:

  1. Stay positive. Instead of focusing on the ways my body has changed after 3 kids I embrace where I am at and choose to be thankful for all that my body has accomplished. I’m thankful for my ability to bear children! And I can still shred!
  2. Feed your body right. When I’m craving sweets I embrace that I can choose a healthy option like organic fresh fruit and grass fed yogurt. I also continually remind myself that food is fuel and nourishment, this directs my actions.
  3. Break a sweat to honor the gift you’ve been given. As hard as it can be to fit in some exercise I know I will feel better afterwards and the results will impact my whole day. This will help me manage stress and sleep better as well.
  4. Resist temptation. Choose healthy sleep times. Or as I say, I need to respect my need for sleep…instead of watching tv too late or scrolling the feed.

Being a good steward of your body through physical, mental/emotional, nutritional, and environmental health not only honors the gift you have been given, it will leave you feeling great and energized to live life to the fullest!
