Trouble Sleeping

Anybody have trouble sleeping sometimes because your mind is racing with so many things that are pressing upon you?

Bethany and I have definitely had a few less than restful nights lately. I’ve woken up a few times and started thinking about all the stressful stuff going on and just can’t get back to sleep. I’ve found a silver lining in the stress though! Haha, yes it’s possible!

Middle of the night stress made me think about the 1st commandment (“You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:3 ESV) and how having “no other gods” means fully trusting in the one true God. Stress can be a “symptom” of our lack of faith. Think about when Peter took his eyes off Jesus while walking on the water (Matthew 14:22-33 ESV)!

1 Peter 5:7 says, “cast all your anxieties upon Him because He cares for you.” So what can we do when we start stressing about the the things we have done or left undone, or even the things to come? Well, it’s the middle of the night and we honestly can’t do much, stressing won’t help any of those situations! I’ve found that this stress can be a great reminder for us to put our trust in God, to bring our concerns and anxieties to God in prayer and “cast them upon the Lord.”

The next time we find our stress eating at our minds (an obstacle), which I know I will, let’s view it as an opportunity to pray and bring our concerns to the Creator and rest in His care….and hopefully get a good nights sleep!
