Peace is Possible

Let’s start with the good stuff.

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:4-7

I find that the same verse can take on different personal and profound meanings in various circumstances. This verse from Philippians is one of my favorites, but in the context of what is happening in the world with Covid-19 it takes on a whole new significance.

So can we stay positive and at peace with our daily stresses right now?

I say yes.

When I think of peace from God I think of it more in the sense of a long-term unshakeable peace, a comfort in the bigger picture of a life of faith. So, when the daily things happen and cause momentary and temporary stress we can still hold to the comfort of the cross and have peace.

Stress or no stress, let’s take this verse to heart and find comfort in God’s word and promise that we can come to him in prayer and His promise is peace.

Also, let’s be honest – we are human so we will always have challenges and stresses – and that’s OK.

Some stress can be good for us because it can keep motivation, energy, and performance high. Stress becomes more of a problem when it has a negative impact on our lives and leads to chronic worry or anxiety. Clearly, with all that is going on in the world right now, I’ll bet most of us are feeling some anxiety from time to time!

Whatever our worries, anxiety, and uncertainty is related to, whether it is to money, health, relationships, family or just the day-to-day, the promise in Philippians 4:4-7 is PEACE – something we all need. I believe peace is possible even in crazy circumstances and this verse is a great guideline for finding it.

Remember…the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Now THAT is a promise that can make us Unstoppable!
