Navigating Change with Joy

As a mom of three rambunctious boys, my days and plans are frequently changing.

In the crazy times that we live in, the world seems to be constantly changing as well. Is all the change holding you back?

I’ve learned throughout my life that change is inevitable. It seems to occur in every season, whether I am expecting it or not. We may not be able to control what changes come our way, however, we can control our responses to them.

Here are my tips for navigating change with joy:

  1. Identify your foundations and prioritize them

We get to choose how we live our life – our foundations and focuses. In times of change, it is vital that we continue the foundations of what our families and lives are built upon. These are our constants in the chaos of change.

For Adam and I, our family foundations are health, togetherness, quality time, love, self-worth, and most importantly our faith. We want to implement these things into our daily life, no matter the season!

For example, when we were traveling as a family for four months this year, almost no two days were the same. Talk about constant change! However, we still prioritized family fun, outdoor adventure, opportunities to pray with the boys and casually talk faith, and some time to recharge. This helped us focus on what is important and life-giving in the midst of the ups and downs of living on the road.

  1. Find something to be grateful for in each day

“…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Gratitude brings joy to the heart. I have found it to be true in my own life and I have witnessed it in the lives of others. Gratitude shifts our perspectives from what is tough or unexpected in our lives to what is good and lovely. In every situation, there is something to be grateful for. Slow down to appreciate the good in each day!

  1. Focus on Faith

My faith is the core of my life and in times of change and uncertainty, I remind myself to cling to God’s steadiness. He is ‘the same yesterday, today and forever’ (Hebrews 13:8) and does not change despite our circumstances. I encourage you to use situations of change, both good or bad, to grow closer to God. He is with us in every season, giving us comfort and guidance through his word the Bible. Listen to God’s word before your own thoughts. Pray over situations and remember God has made a way. The bigger picture is His grace on our life and Him making us whole again when Christ overcame sin and death.

Part of being Unstoppable is embracing and overcoming the changes in our lives. I can’t control what comes my way, but I can control my priorities, my attitude of thankfulness, and allowing God’s word to lead me in faith instead of my own, sometimes not great thoughts!

Each of these things help me to have joy and a positive mindset despite the changes occurring around me! I am cheering you on as you joyfully navigate the changes in your own life! You can do it!
