Healthy Social Media Habits

I’ll be honest, I’m not a huge fan of social media.

But, I do work hard to keep up a strong presence on the platforms so that I can encourage and connect with all of you and the world!

Social media is not all bad, but sometimes it can be a struggle to use it well! Before I know it, I’ve just spent WAY more time scrolling than I meant to or I’m looking at a friend’s post instead of looking at my son’s face when he’s talking to me.

Can you relate? If we don’t set boundaries, it can easily take over our lives and become unhealthy.

Here are a couple tips to help you have a healthy balance with social media:

Change Your Mindset with Comparison

I have a bunch of close friends who I think are so beautiful and I easily get caught comparing myself to them when I see what they post online. However, I also know these particular friends are struggling with a lot of health issues at the same time. So often I think we can look at people and just think, “they are so perfect, they have it all together and everything is going so well for them,” but we don’t really know what’s going on in their lives. We don’t know what they’re struggling with on a day-to-day basis or some of the health issues they’re dealing with.

I’m trying to shift my mindset on this and not have a jealous approach. I encourage you to do the same! My goal is to remember that we’re all in our own journey and that just because someone is only posting a highlight reel, doesn’t mean they have a perfect life. They are probably going through hard things just like we all are!

Encourage Others

Social media can be a really dark place so use your platform to make it brighter! I have a heart for people of all ages, but especially young women and I really try to be a voice of encouragement to them all through what I post. Your pictures and your captions can make such an impact!

Stay in Reality

Don’t get so sucked into social media that you miss out on real life!! I love posting fun videos on TikTok, but I am also constantly reminding all the young people watching to find their balance with the medias! Don’t let it rule your life, your decision-making or the way you view yourself. Be who you are, regardless of what the social media aspect in your life is, but most importantly don’t live your life on screens. Enjoy time with your friends and family, get outside and experience God’s beautiful creation or read a book! And when you do those things, be present and all-in. Don’t be on your phone and posting during that time.

If you are looking for more practical, tangible ways to put these things into practice, check out my Be Present Course. Amazing mom and author Kate Merrick joined me in this course and she has some INCREDIBLE tips for all of this!

I encourage you to own your social media. Don’t let it overtake and own you!!
