Find Peace and Use Your Time Well: 12 Ideas for Self-Quarantine
Sending peace to you all!
I hope you can find peace and make choices to maximize your time and bring yourself into a more restful state of mind during all the craziness right now!
Or simply slow yourself down and have quality time together with your loved ones! Make the most of today, tomorrow, and however many days you need to.
We are currently camping as a family, away from everything, staying healthy, and also filling ourselves up together. It’s amazing! But I also feel the hurt that many are facing with the effect COVID-19 is having on the economy, loss of jobs, and many more significant challenges.
With preventative measures taking place all over the world many countries are advising to practice social distancing to help curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. While having this unexpected downtime can be nerve-wracking, it can also be a time to be present and productive if you purpose to make it that way!
While having this unexpected downtime can be nerve-wracking, it can also be a time to be present and productive if you purpose to make it that way!
Here are 12 ideas you can implement while you’re self-quarantining at home:
- Boost your immune system. You cannot always control your environment, but you CAN influence and support your own immune system. Stay hydrated, focus your diet on vegetables and whole real foods (a.k.a. no packaged foods), reduce to little or no sugars and refined carbs, and set a good sleep schedule. Even if you have not leaned your life into healthy living ~ you can still make changes today! It is likely the corona virus is only going to keep spreading for quite some time, so why not take care of yourself now. Living a healthy life can prevent disease of many kinds. So amazing, right?! Maybe even do a cleanse!
- Get a workout in. Avoiding public places doesn’t mean you have to avoid working out. There are plenty of exercises you can do without any equipment to keep your body in shape. Try my 10-Minute Essentials Workout for a great basic workout that you can do at home! Or put some music on and dance! In my opinion, you can still go to the beach, or for a lake swim or even a hike as long as you aren’t with a large group of people. Like I said, my family and I are currently camping!
- Try a new recipe. This is a great time to try one of those recipes you stashed away for later! Try to keep it simple with a recipe that utilizes ingredients that you already have on hand so you don’t need to go out in public to buy items. If you usually have a lot of vegetables on hand, this Veggie Stew is great for using them up and making you feel better if you’re feeling under the weather. Just make sure that recipe is a healthy one!
- Read a book. Catch up on all the books you’ve been collecting but never had the time to read. I love, love, love reading – educational, fun reads, the Bible–mix it up and enjoy the time!
- Get yourself organized. Self-quarantine is a good time to deep clean your home, reorganize your items, and get rid of the things you no longer need. We like the Marie Kondo method of evaluating each item by asking if it brings us joy. Clearing the clutter and getting down to the essentials is not only cleansing for the soul, but it can help you focus on the things that are most important to you.
- Learn something new. While many schools are closing in precaution of spreading the coronavirus, it doesn’t mean learning has to stop. There are plenty of awesome online courses, tutorials, and videos to help you learn new things – from playing a new instrument, to cooking, to bettering yourself in general! If you’re interested, I launched my own online course last year on how to live an Unstoppable life! I’d love for you to join us and I guarantee it will be a great investment of your time 🙂 **FYI I’m gifting 2500 memberships in the coming weeks to help those who need it most due to the economical effects of the lockdown. - Watch a good movie. There’s nothing like curling up on your couch and settling in with a good movie! My latest film, Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable is available online in over 70 countries. Watch it on Netflix, iTunes, Amazon Video, Christian Cinema, Google Play and more! And it is family-friendly so have the little people in your life join you too!
- Catch up on podcasts. Whether you listen to podcasts on a regular basis or have never listened to one in your life, it’s a great time to get into them. There are so many podcasts on so many different topics, it’s impossible not to find at least one that piques your interest. Some of my favs to listen to- Issues Etc (faith based), Found My Fitness (nerdy health, but legit), The Boy Mom (motherhood), Wild + Free ( raising children ). And if you’re interested, here are a few that I’ve been a guest on lately: Goal Digger… Monika Kade… Finding Mastery… Lewis Howes… Dream Big with Bob Goff.
- Play some board games. Enjoy quality time. If you’re living with your family or some roommates, grab some games and let the fun begin! This is some great bonding time. My mom and I love playing Scrabble together! Or if you live alone, doing a jigsaw puzzle can be meditative and can make the time pass more quickly.
- Dance. Turn up some of your favorite music and get your body moving! Dancing is stress releasing and a great way to burn off some excess energy you might have from not going out. Adam and I took up dance lessons about a year and a half ago and we absolutely love it! YouTube has dance lessons, I’m sure. Haha!
- Deep Clean YOU. Check in on yourself, by taking some time to self evaluate your mind, dreams, relationships. How you can work on certain areas of your life? What changes would you like to make, etc? Social distancing (as they call it) may not have been in your plans, but it’s a great time to slow yourself down and reevaluate your life. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, but it’s also easy to become exhausted or get burnt out that way. Think of this time as a way to recharge your body, your brain, and your whole you. Love yourself well and then you can love others even better!
- Be a blessing. Give family and friends a call. Or write a sweet letter. Or mail a package. Get creative in ways to reach out and love others, even from a distance.
Finally, protect yourself from stress. If the news, media and social media is stressing you out, then take a break. It’s OK! The world will still be there when you check back in. A break may just allow you to grow, have time to think, be honest with yourself, and embrace those you love more fully!
Stay positive and love well everyone!!! Live UNSTOPPABLE even in these unique and challenging times!
