The Association of Professional Surfers (ASP) held their 2012 ASP World Surfing Awards ceremony on Feb 24th in Australia.
Bethany was given the honor of accepting the Peter Whittaker Award (PWA). Peter Whittaker was the CEO of the ASP before Brodie who sadly died in his late 40′s about 8 years ago. This award is a very high honor. The PWA recognizes those qualities that make a person much more than merely a good surfer…..a person who possesses such qualities as Integrity, Respect, Achievement, Sportsmanship and all the while displaying a Passion for surfing. In short, it is the best AND fairest ASP surfer–a person who is a great Role Model and Ambassador for our sport. The recipient can be man or woman, WCT, Star, Master, longboards or even a junior; but only one is chosen each year.
Bethany was unable to attend the award ceremony, but sent this video acceptance speech (which unfortunately was not able to play at the event due to techinical difficulties):
