Bethany tells her story in this I Am Second Film:

What is one to do when your outward passion and purpose in life is seemingly taken away? Bethany looked inward to her relationship with Jesus, who renewed her spirit while also restoring her surfing ability, to even greater heights. Her story today is retold in the movie SOUL SURFER, and continues to inspire others to not give up on themselves..and God.

Hi Bethany
my name is meg and i am 14 years old. You have been my
rock through out he past year when my parents separated and from then on
i have been terrified of my dad for good reasons i got your book a a
present when i was in grade 3 and it was my first biography i loved the
book and lent it to a friend at the time i was still to understand a lot
of what the book was about but i got the main idea but i didn’t get the
book back until 2011 and since then i have read it more times than i
can remember. I am also dyslexic witch is not very fun but i love to
read a wide range of books and i love art and sport but i have no depth
perception so ball games are out of the picture so I’m a sprinter and i
LOVE to surf. on the nose of my board i have “i can do all things.”
written so when i pop up that’s what i read. i love to eat healthy and
junk food makes me want to vomit yuck. my favorite place to surf is
kennet river and if you ever get the chance to surf there i highly
recommended it. and i know that you set out on a mission to in brace
people and give them the word of god and i never had a religion until
you became my rock and led me to believe in god i love you

I’m a huge fan of yours. When my mom bought me the movie Soul Surfer I watched it for about 4 nights in a row. I love you sooo much! To be honest my friends think i’m obessesed. Like my picture on skype and gmail is of you. I always say how when I’m going thru hard times I think of what you had to go thru. It makes me feel blessed to not have to go thru a daily struggle and just have one arm. Thank you ver much Bethany for everything you have ever done, like without you knowing it giving me courage and strength to do things I would be scared to do. Love you!!

Thanks say hi to your sister and give her a hug from me because that would have been toucher. And with the “something good things happen because of the bad” thing every cloud has a silver lining. ( i got that from stuart little 2) it means that in every bad situation there is a good thing in it even though it might be minuscule to the scail of things it’s still there. Bethany Hamilton found the silver lining in her cloud, witch was having her arm bitten off but then she was able to inspire and encourage people all over the world and help them go to heaven. Thats a very big silver lining. and when i say all over the world i mean all over for example I’m in victoria austraila. I hope you reply you sound like a very nice person. ill try to talk soon

She is “popular” because she actually survived the attack and she was brave enouff to get back in the water and continue on to becoming a pro surfer! Now thats rad. and she is (read her comment) over her arm but she’s out in the world giving people a hope, inspiration and in a lot of cases leading them to heaven witch no one has failed to notice you haven’t!
